Style | You shouldn't have to spend a fortune to get a bike that can take on everything from enduro races to epic, big mountain descents or gnarly bike parks. The ONE-SIXTY 500 gets Merida's radical test and award-winning geometry and suspension design in a tough all-aluminium frame package, paired to components that deliver rock-solid performance and ironclad value. A RockShox Domain fork and Deluxe shock can take the rough with the rougher, while the four-piston Shimano brakes and wide-range drivetrain are tough and consistent. Highlights: - Enduro-ready LITE III aluminium frame with FAST kinematic suspension - Radical new enduro geometry and AGILOMETER sizing - Mixed or full 29er wheel set - RockShox Domain 170mm travel fork - RockShox Deluxe Select+ 162/171mm travel rear shock - Powerful Shimano 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes - Long-travel dropper post - Tough Maxxis DHR II Double Down rear tyre Evolution or revolution? How about both? The ONE-SIXTY is a radical, award-winning design that pushes our hard-hitting enduro platform to new heights. Just as well, because once it's there it's ready to rip the longest, toughest descents too. Our proven suspension system uses a flexstay design with an adjustable rocker, so whether you choose to run it as a full 29er (162mm travel) or mixed 29/27.5! setup (171mm travel), the geometry is preserved. There's a radically steep 79 degree seat tube angle for goat-like climbing and slack 64 degree head angle plus 170mm fork to deal with downhill trail chaos. AGILOMETER sizing allows riders to run a longer or shorter reach frame independently of their height, while suspension becomes more progressive as you size up, all with long-travel dropper posts. WIRE PORT cable routing plus reliable threaded bottom bracket round out the package. Details PROLITE 66 TRIPLE BUTTED ALUMINUM When creating high-end aluminium frames, Merida use the proven PROLITE 66 (6066) aluminium, as it is incredibly light and durable. In addition, it works exceptionally well with our hydroforming technology, allowing us to create complex shapes, featuring triple butted wall thicknesses, an almost carbon-like appearance and the best possible stiffness-to-weight ratio. While lesser alloys might be cheaper, it is the ideal choice for high-performance bicycle frames. FAST KINEMATIC This suspension system uses a Flexstay design to reduce weight and maintenance. It's adjustable to run 29" or 27.5" wheels without altering the geometry and has Size Tuned shock progression that increases with frame size, so lighter and smaller riders can access all of the travel and heavier riders get the support they need on big hits. INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING Running the brake and gear cables inside the frame protects them from the elements, gives a clean and neat look and can offer aerodynamic advantages. X-TAPER HEADTUBE Steering precision is vital to safe and confident handling, and the X-TAPER HEADTUBE allows us to significantly boost this precision. A larger headset diameter at the bottom paired with a smaller one at the top helps to deal with the strains modern riding and equipment can put on the headtube, all without adding unnecessary weight. It allows tapered forks to be fitted with ease and delivers precise and confidence-inspiring steering. Sizing The best approach to finding your correct size is to come to see us in the store, where we can help. Merida One-Sixty 500 review, off-road.cc (see here for full review): "The One-Sixty is Merida's recently updated enduro bike. Using the very same frame as the One-Forty, it takes all of that goodness but simply ups the travel, unlocking the frame's hidden potential and creating an absolute ripper that's nothing short of capable. While it's mega proficient downhill, the One-Sixty 500 is equally as impressive when it comes to cranking back up, all while delivering some serious bang for the buck and engaging yet forgiving trail dynamics. Not only is it one of the best mountain bikes on the market, it's a very solid stepping stone into enduro racing." Verdict The Merida's One-Sixty 500 is a full-fat enduro bike that'll work fantastically for those taking their first steps into enduro riding or for anyone who's more experienced and after a big travelled bike on a budget. Its blend of excellent behaviour on the pedals and all-out stability results in a bike that's fun and rewarding over any trail it touches. But most of all, regardless of its radical geometry, it's welcoming and it's easy to ride very quickly. It's not without a few compromises, namely its resin-only rotors and somewhat lacking agility but for the money Merida has done a stellar job in building the best enduro bike south of £3k. |
