Style | Rider and bike working in perfect synergy, you are breathing hard and your heart is pumping but you are in control and having fun. Gain brings enough power to help you defy gravity but not dominate the ride or remove the satisfaction. The natural assistance blends invisibly into the background, leaving you feeling like you are fitter than ever. This isn't about riding faster, it isn't even about riding further, this is just about having more fun each and every time you ride. Natural handling means tuning geometry and rigidity to optimise performance. In this respect, Gain is just like any great road bike. Natural pedalling means silent and unobtrusive assistance at lower speeds and no added friction, leaving you free to pedal as normal at higher speeds. Highlights - Lightweight Orbea Monocoque Carbon (OMR) frame and full carbon forks - Natural handling: on the descents, the combination of Gain's Dynamic Structure and great weight distribution result in confident, fun handling - Lightweight, smooth and natural feeling e-bike system: on the climbs the tuned motors offer enough power to turn gravity down a bit; on flatter roads, when the speeds climb past 15.5 mph, Gain's frictionless, silent pedalling and great power transmission make it hard to tell this is not a normal bike - It has never been easier to grab your bike and head out the door: Gain's huge range of up to 4000 metres of climbing means you can pretty much forget about battery limitations, and the top tube command centre puts all the information you need right at your fingertips - Clearance for up to 35mm wide tyres enhances Gain's versatility can capability - the fun doesn't have to stop where the asphalt ends - New Shimano 105 2x12 speed groupset - Gain carbon: Cycling Plus magazine E-Bike of the Year 2023: Performance Bike Details: Enough Energy Enough Power is a concept which is central to Orbea's vision of e-road. Tuning the motor's power delivery allows an increase increase of range while giving a more natural ride. The wholly integrated system brings together power, range and subtle, integrated controls and display, coupled with the nearly silent assistance, to remove distractions, leaving you free to enjoy the ride. Lightest in class No other e-road bike with this battery capacity offers lighter weight. Gain takes that one step further with the Enough Power concept meaning that when it comes to range, there are no bikes that come close. Drive Unit Tuned X20 motor: The Mahle X20 motor is the lightest, most compact e-bike drive system on the market, making it the obvious choice for Gain. 55Nm of nearly silent, frictionless assistance gives more than enough power for even the toughest climbs, all with a total system weight of just 3.2kg, including the 350Wh battery. Working with Mahle to develop Orbea's Enough Power tune was key to making Gain. Peak torque is applied smoothly, mirroring your input and feeling natural and unobtrusive. Natural Pedalling Orbea worked hard on the power and torque delivery, with hundreds of hours of testing, making it smoother and less intrusive. Maximum assistance arrives between 75 and 95rpm, a cadence where you are working at maximum efficiency. That means that just when you deliver more, the motor steps in seamlessly to help, feeling alive and responsive. Battery The battery is one of the most noticeable components of an eBike system, so every step has been taken to find the lightest, smallest and most discreet unit. The beauty of the integrated Secure Battery System is that it allows more battery to be fitted in a smaller space. Investing the weight savings made with the new Gain in a bigger battery allows for an increased range. That means you can pretty much forget about the battery level unless you plan on climbing more than 4000 metres. Range - up to 7 hours or 4000 metres (13100 feet) of climbing Gain's lower power consumption and greater reliance on your legs increase the battery life by around 1.5x. This isn't an e-road bike where you sit back and rely on the motor; this is a sporty, fun ride that involves you in the excitement. Gain offers three assistance levels, allowing you to choose how hard you work. Range Extender Although you'll almost certainly never need it, a 171Wh range extender is offered. The beauty of the modular battery solution is that for all those rides where you don't need that extra range, you can leave the weight at home. Integration Cables are carefully guided along the best path under the stem and through the head tube, with no rub or rattle, and are optimised for both traditional and electronic shifting systems. Fully integrated lighting is just one more feature to enhance your ride. Gain features integrated daytime running lights, with the front in the display mount and the rear in the seat clamp. Gain is safer and more functional with head and tail lights that announce your presence both day and night. Simplicity Riding bikes should be an escape from screens, a pure experience without distractions. At a glance, Gain's interface tells you everything you need to know and nothing more. Say no to distractions and "innovations" that only distance you from the experience; that is not what Gain is all about. Sleek, subtle and fully integrated into the top tube, the control centre offers information and control, to include assistance level, remaining battery and the status of your lights. Removing and refitting your rear wheel has never been so easy. There are no fiddly connections for the motor; instead the motor automatically connects when you insert the wheel. Click here see how easy it is! Information at your fingertips The out front Pulse ONE display with 2.1" screen receives data by ANT+ transmission, providing the functions of a wireless bike computer, including current speed, average speed, trip distance, odometer, ride time and clock. It is designed to work in conjunction with the control centre, so you can also access all the information related to the electric system - battery level, range of main battery, range of optional Range Extender, assist level, light system status - and also change the assist level and switch the lights on and off. Add ANT+ compatible heart rate and cadence sensors or a power meter for further functionality. If you crave even more data and functionality, the optional app offers altitude, gradient, ride tracking, mapping and navigation, and activity and GPS route uploading. Wherever you go, your SmartBike goes with you. Connect with your SmartBike to adapt and adjust the behaviour and performance of the system, providing security, battery consumption management and ride data analysis. You'll also get instant feedback on your performance, customise engine maps, log your activities, get wherever you want to go with guided mapping and much more. The MySmartBike app is now also fully integrated with Strava, the world's largest social network for athletes. Sync your MySmartBike profile with your Strava account to transform your activities into navigable routes, upload your own GPX, or even create new navigable routes. Geometry One of the most important points to consider when determining geometry is that the bike must be easy to ride, meaning you have precise control over the bike. Gain has a shorter wheelbase that is more responsive, shorter chainstays that make for better acceleration, a lower bottom bracket for more stability, while the balanced reach and stack give and shorter chainstays give great ergonomics without compromising comfort for the longest rides. Design Your Ride The Gain is available in two beautiful colour options, and also available at no extra cost in custom colours. Upgrades are also available at extra cost. Orbea Gain [M10i] review, Bike Radar (see here for full review): "The new third-generation Orbea Gain is claimed to offer a 'pure road' ride experience rather than being simply an ebike that looks like a road bike. Throughout testing, I've been incredibly impressed by the bike's natural ride feel and excellent handling - pedal assistance is integrated in one of the most thoughtful ways I've seen. Although the M10i specification might be unnecessarily high, with a punchy price tag, it is nevertheless one of the best electric road bikes you can buy. Pros: + Clever system + Light weight + Impressive range + Superbike build Cons: - Dura-Ace Di2 build might be overkill The bottom line The Orbea Gain M10i impresses hugely and it's great to see Orbea tuning a motor system with the aim of improving the ride experience. The tuning has worked to deliver proper power assistance at all levels, without the bike dominating your efforts, and the remote controls enhance the interaction with the system. Although many riders might be better off saving a chunk of cash in favour of a lower-specced model, there's no denying the Orbea Gain M10i sets a very high bar for e-road bike performance." |
