Shimano PD-MX80 Saint pedal review, What Mountain Bike magazine, January 2013:
"Saint is Shimano's heavy duty, downhill-oriented range, and while all the other bits - cranks, brakes, mechs and so on - are overkill for trail riding, these new pedals are a different matter. Unsurprisingly theyâre Vin Diesel tough, with stainless steel axles and the same tried and tested cartridge bearings as their classic, BMX-derived but now outdated DX pedals. The benefits of a sealed unit that can be easily replaced are obvious - these pedals will last many years.
Their gently concave shape almost hugs your shoe, and even in the filthiest of wet clay conditions they refuse to clog thanks to an airy, yet very tough design. The platform is 8.5mm thinner than those old DXs, which both helps with ground clearance and lowers your weight usefully - thereâs less chance of your foot rolling forwards and slipping on these. They're also 3mm wider to create a broad, secure footbed. The 18 replaceable pins (per - pedal) screw in from the back - snap one and you can still unscrew it - and the length of the pin can be adjusted by adding the supplied washers.
Such strength and longevity means a fair weight - they add 500g to your ride- but it's forgivable considering the price and quality."
