Style | SL 4 is the introductory carbon model in the brand new Domane family. The OCLV Carbon frame has both Front and Rear IsoSpeed for unmatched ride quality that helps you stay stronger and more comfortable for longer. It also has an internal storage compartment for ride essentials and powerful disc brakes that give you wider tyre clearance and all-weather stopping power. All-new for 2020, Domane has more comfort, more speed and more versatility. Comfort: Trek's unique Front and Rear IsoSpeed returns, and extra tyre clearance of up to 38mm helps to increase comfort and traction. Speed: Domane looks faster than ever - and it backs that up with real speed and performance. Aerodynamic tube shapes and hidden cables mean that Domane is now one minute faster for every hour ridden compared to the previous version. Plus, years of research have shown that on harsher roads, bigger tyres running lower pressures are faster. Domane's class-leading tyre clearances and stock 32mm tyres running on wider rims make it faster when the road surface (or lack thereof) get rough. Versatility: That extra tyre clearance means Domane can take on more rides than ever before, and mudguard mounts (clearance for 35c tyres) let riders ride in wetter weather year-round. When it comes to carrying kit, saddle packs and jersey pockets can get the job done - but they don't always look and feel great. Domane now features a frame-integrated storage compartment that allows riders to neatly stow away tools and gear internally. The Bontrager Integrated Tool System (BITS) stores a tube, tyre levers, CO2 and CO2 head in a neat roll inside the downtube. The bottle cage sits on an easy-open storage door and holds a BITS multi tool giving riders quick access for mechanical adjustments. Also new for 2020 is that Domane is available in more sizes and more colourways. A smaller rider, no matter their gender, can now choose from every model offered in these performance lines eliminating the need for a woman-specific offering. Every bike is a women's bike. And every bike is a men's bike. So go ahead - venture down the path unknown, take the long route, ride the paved roads out and the dirt roads home. Domane's smooth, stable, and fast ride will inspire you to keep going. Highlights - Super versatile, super smooth and equally suited to racing, club rides and all-day adventures on the open road - Front and Rear IsoSpeed soak up fatiguing bumps in the road so you can stay stronger and more comfortable for longer - Ultralight 500 Series OCLV Carbon frame. - Additional tyre clearance - Domane SL 5 Disc is equipped with 700 x 32c tyres and has clearance for 38c - to enhance comfort and versatility on and off road - Brilliant Shimano 105 R7000 series drivetrain and disc brakes provide slick shifting and great braking modulation and stopping power, so you can adventure onto rougher surfaces with confidence It's right for you if... Details Rear IsoSpeed Domane is a modern day instant classic race bike. The revolutionary IsoSpeed rear decoupler gives professional athletes and riders the world over an immediate advantage over rough roads thanks to double the compliance of a traditional road bike while still putting all the rider's power to the road. Trek's engineers designed a decoupler that allows the seat tube to rotate independently from the top tube-to-seatstay junction, increasing vertical compliance to twice that of the nearest rival system, without compromising pedalling efficiency. Result: you can ride harder, longer. Front IsoSpeed While IsoSpeed's rear decoupler had riders' backs, some essential parts of our bodies were left wanting. The challenge presented was not dissimilar to the same the team faced in 2010 when the development of the first generation of Domane began: reduce vibration without sacrificing any efficiency or control. In kind, the solution to the front was not all that dissimilar to the rear. Front IsoSpeed is a decoupler that allows the steerer tube to flex independently from the head tube, increasing the vertical compliance of the front of the bike by 10% compared to a traditional road bike. OCLV Carbon OCLV is Trek's patented carbon production process. Over two decades ago, Trek engineers developed the Optimum Compaction, Low Void carbon manufacturing process, enabling them to produce carbon bikes with consistency and quality previously thought impossible. It was an industry breakthrough and to this day, Trek OCLV carbon frames are the best, most consistent you can buy. Optimum Compaction means the carbon material is densely compressed, achieving the optimal fibre-to-resin ratio to maximize strength and minimise weight. Low Void (LV) means the carbon has almost no microscopic gaps between carbon layers, achieving a strength that exceeds even aerospace standards. 500 Series achieves a superb balance and light weight, strength and stiffness that's perfectly suited to the sophisticated frame technologies that distinguish Trek frames. Performance cable routing Race optimised, road proven. Trek's sleek cable routing system virtually eliminates friction for the crispest shifting in any conditions. Three years in the making and well worth the wait. Tapered headtube The fork tapers from a 1.5" lower bearing to a 1 1/8" upper bearing. The larger-diameter lower bearing keeps the fork stiffer under cornering loads and distributes forces more evenly, increasing the life of the bearings. Result: a more confident and durable ride. Micro-adjust seatmast The all-new micro-adjust seatmast is lightweight, strong, super aerodynamic and easy to use. Endurance Fit As befits the world's most advanced endurance racing bikes, Domane has the most stable racing geometry - still racy, but with a slightly higher head tube for better stability and control, and greater comfort throughout the entire ride. BITS Storage The sleek internal storage compartment gives you a versatile spot to stow tools and gear. 3S integrated chain keeper Integrated directly into the bike frame: it's an elegant solution that provides flawless gear shifting even on rough roads and under heavy loads. No more standing on the side of the road, covered in grease, unwedging your dropped chain as competitors race by. DuoTrap S Seamlessly integrates the computer sensor into the frame to measure speed, distance, and cadence with no added aerodynamic drag. It works with all the major ANT+ wireless technology players, including Bontrager, Bryton, Garmin, Powertap, and SRM, and simultaneously sends Bluetooth too, to sync with smartphones. Blendr Bontrager Blendr technology lets you clip your front light, computer and other accessories directly to the stem for clean looks and maximum user friendliness. Start with a Blendr stem, add the appropriate base and finish with a mount matched to your desired accessory. See here for further details. Mudguard mounts Discreet mounts accommodate full-coverage mudguards for added utility. Next model up: Domane SL 5 Trek Domane First Ride, Peloton Magazine, July 2019 (see here for full details): "Smooth, smooth, smooth! IsoSpeed is already a proven technology on the cobbles and rough roads, so it was no surprise to find this version so compliant. But it is not compliant in a distracting way; IsoSpeed manages to disappear into the background. Our first ride had us wanting to see what capabilities it has on really rough terrain and gravel where the ability to adjust the toptube IsoSpeed would be very useful. Descending was very planted. We could carve corners confidently and had a blast on the negative grades. And going uphill to be able to get to those descents was no struggle. The Domane is no pure climber, but despite the compliance, it still transfers power well enough uphill." Trek Domane: Cycling Weekly 2019 Editor's Choice, Endurance Bikes, December 2019 ![]() "The latest Trek Domane earns its place here for being a true barrier-breaking bike. Coming a long way since its inception, and transcending the classic 'endurance' moniker that it has become associated with, this new version is as close to a do-it-all bike as Trek has ever produced. ...Clearances that allow up to a 38mm tyre to fit with ease and a newly developed geometry that feels confident off-road, mean Trek is happy for you to call it a gravel bike as well. Don't think it lacks the performance edge that has seen it win cobbled Classics in the past, though. It still provides an inspiring and rapid ride that is sure to win you over long before its list of talents has been exhausted." |
