Emonda SLR 7 Disc is a high-performance carbon road bike that pairs Trek's lightest road bike frame ever with the all-weather performance of hydraulic disc brakes, carbon wheels and the precision shifting of a Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic drivetrain. When designing Emonda, the goal was simple: Design the lightest line of road bikes in the world. Emonda comes from the French verb emonder - to prune and trim away - and Trek held true to its meaning.
- Size-Specific Ride Tuned Performance
Trek's R&D team went searching for the holy grail of ride performance by tirelessly optimising, prototyping and testing new frame designs and carbon lay-ups. Using advanced analysis techniques including parameterised optimisation, finite element analysis, and strain gauge and accelerometer instrumentation, the team focused on reducing weight, increasing stiffness and improving compliance. But increasing stiffness alone does not improve the handling characteristics of a road bike.
The placement and construction of the composite layers have a massive effect on ride quality, and without the information gleaned from extensive analysis, engineers are left to guesswork and hypotheticals. Trek prefer clear test results that show marked improvements.
Testing in the lab provided the numbers that the engineers were looking for, but performance and ride feel out on the road is what really matters. That's why the pro riders of Trek-Segafredo evaluated prototype after prototype to confirm that the story the numbers told held true on even the most demanding rides.
All of this testing and development didn't happen over night. It wasn't simple or easy, but focusing on each strand of carbon and every minute detail of frame design delivered a line of bikes with frames that are the absolute lightest in their class, with size-specific carbon layups that ensure consistent ride feel across all frame sizes.
- OCLV Carbon Integration
Nobody knows carbon like Trek. More than 25 years of experience refining the carbon production process has delivered a new 700 Series OCLV Carbon lay-up that significantly reduces Emonda's weight while simultaneously increasing stiffness. The result is a bike that's faster off the line, more responsive in the corners, and doesn't provide excuses on even the most leg-shattering climbs.
- Tapered headtube and fork
The head tube tapers from a 1.5" lower bearing to a 1-1/8" upper bearing, and is wider side to side than front to back. This asymmetric steering system minimises weight while maximising power transfer and keeping the fork stiffer under cornering loads. Result: a more powerful and confident ride.
Wider is better. BB90 is the widest bottom bracket available on a road bike. This Trek-exclusive carbon BB makes the frame lighter, stiffer, and quicker to accelerate.
BB90 eliminates the need for extra inserts and parts in the bottom bracket/frame junction. Fewer parts mean a lighter frame. And a lighter frame means a faster ride.
- Ride Tuned seatmast
Ultimate comfort and light weight.
Trek's Ride Tuned seatmast is the lightest, most comfortable solution for day-in, day-out performance and comfort. The no-cut design eliminates traditional seatpost clamping forces, so less material is used at the seat tube junction, resulting in a lighter frame.
Additionally, most seatmast systems have to be cut, leaving little or no room for adjustability. The Ride Tuned seatmast system has more than 10cm of adjustment, making it the most adjustable system on the market.
- Carbon integration
Every integrated piece, from carbon front derailleur mount to carbon dropouts to water bottle bosses, is moulded into the frame, eliminating redundant material and reducing weight.
- Control Freak Cable Management
Control Freak is the lightest, quietest, most versatile cable management system. It allows any combination of shift and brake housing to be routed through the frame for clean aesthetics and an easily customised set-up.
- DuoTrap S compatible
DuoTrap S seamlessly integrates a Bluetooth/ANT+ sensor into the frame with no added aerodynamic drag. It allows you to measure speed, distance, and cadence on your computer or smartphone. It works with all the major ANT+ wireless technology players, including Bontrager, Garmin, Bryton, PowerTap, and SRM.
