Electric-assist mountain bikes amplify your pedalling power while amplifying the amount of fun you'll have out on the trail. Go further, go faster and go to more places. Enjoy more of everything that makes mountain biking great.
Rail 7 is a long-travel electric mountain bike built for ripping the big stuff. It features the same high-end trail tech as Trek's analogue full suspension trail bikes, an upgraded fork, drivetrain, battery and more, plus Bosch's latest and most powerful drive system that's basically like having your own shuttle.
Little brother of the Trek Rail 9, mbr magazine e-Bike of the Year: "The Trek Rail is as rewarding to ride as it is easy to live with."
It's right for you if...
You're looking for a trail-specific e-MTB that's designed to tackle the same tough terrain as regular trail bikes. You already know just how amazing e-MTBs are on the mountain, and want to invest in better components.
The tech you get
A burly alloy frame with 150mm of rear travel that fully encases a 625 Wh battery, a 160mm RockShox Yari RC fork, a powerful new Bosch Performance Line CX 250 W motor that assists up to 25 km/h and a Purion controller. A smooth-shifting 1x12 Shimano SLX/XT drive train, dropper post, powerful Shimano 4-piston brakes for confident descents and Bontrager Line Comp 30 29er wheels that are already completely tubeless-ready, including sealant.
- Rail shreds just as hard as its non-electric brethren, plus it powers you right back up the mountain - no shuttle or lift necessary.
- Made with the same exclusive frame tech as Remedy and Slash, like Mino Link adjustable geometry, a Straight Shot down tube for extra stiffness and Active Braking Pivot (ABP).
- The new, better-than-ever Bosch motor is smaller, lighter and more efficient. It feels more natural while you're pedalling, and has less drag when you're not
- The Purion controller has Walk Assist and an intelligent eMTB mode that automatically delivers the right amount of power based on your terrain
- Trek's Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) system looks great and is super user-friendly: it fully hides the battery in the frame for protection, makes it easy to remove the battery without tools and even lets you mount a water bottle cage.
Upgrades from Rail 5 625 Wh:
- RockShox Yari RC fork
- Bontrager Line Comp 30 wheelset
- Shimano Deore XT M8100 rear derailleur
- Shimano SLX M7100 shifter, cassette and chain
- E*thirteen E*spec Plus cranks
- Shimano M6120 4-piston brakes
- Bontrager XR5 Team Issue tyres with "Inner Strength" sidewalls
- Bontrager Rhythm Comp handlebar
No path too steep, no challenge too great: the Performance Line CX is made for anyone for whom the trail is a second home. Mounted centrally in the frame, the all-new Bosch Performance Line CX motor is lighter, smaller and quieter than previous versions, for cleaner integration and more nimble handling. It's also more efficient so you can go further on a single battery charge.
The new Performance Line CX accelerates extremely powerfully, responds without delay and features convincing agile handling and even more control. With up to 340% of perfectly delivered support and dynamic responsiveness, it pushes the joy of eMountain biking to the next level.
Use the intelligent eMTB mode to automatically adjust the amount of assist to match the terrain. It's a set-and-forget mode that delivers just the right amount of power so you can focus on enjoying the ride. The eMTB mode automatically varies between 'Tour' and 'Turbo' assistance levels. A maximum torque of up to 85 Nm strengthens the motor and the rider's personal contribution between 140% and 340%. Depending on the pedal pressure applied, the motor dynamically boosts the rider's own performance. The eBiker does not have to change the riding modes manually. Starting on steep slopes is no problem, while riding on mountain trails is noticeably easier and the eMountain biker benefits from significantly better traction. This provides for a natural riding sensation and maximum performance on the trail.
The compact Purion on-board computer serves as your eBike's command centre, making it possible to switch between the riding modes offering the different levels of assistance, as well as to call up information like speed, battery level and distance. The Purion display is back-lit for easy reading.
The battery can be charged in situ, or easily removed to take with you. The positioning of the motor and the battery within the down tube gives a lower, better balanced centre of gravity for a better handling bike. Rail 7 comes with the Bosch Standard Charger, which operates silently. It is compact, with the same dimensions and weight as a water bottle (less than 800g). The PowerPack 625 is completely recharged in 4.9 hours, enabling you to get back on the trail as soon as possible.

Trek Rail 7 review, e-Mountainbike magazine (see here):
"The frame of the Trek Rail 7 is cleverly designed and of the highest quality, masterfully integrating the complete Bosch system. The Trek Rail 7 sets the bar for this group test as soon as the trail points downhill. Whether flowing or technical, it literally glides by the competition like it's on rails while also offering plenty of comfort for long days in the saddle. No other bike responds to an active riding style as well as the Rail 7, allowing aggressive riders to push their limits. The Trek Rail 7 convinced us with its versatility, excellent handling and high-quality frame, winning the well-deserved Best in Test!"
