520 is a steel touring bike made for the open road. It's the longest-running model in Trek's line-up, and one of the most loved. 520 is built to carry you and your gear on your longest journeys. Rack and mudguard mounts, a wide range of gearing for climbing and a stable touring geometry make it the perfect choice for loaded multi-day trips and comfortable all-day adventures.
There's no better way to see the world than from the saddle of a bike. A dedicated adventure touring bike is comfortable, reliable, capable, and always ready for the next adventure. The 520 is the classic steel touring bike, perfected. It's your ideal travelling companion, whatever your route or destination, day after day, week after week and year after year.
- 520 is built to hold up, and it's super reliable over the long haul - you'll leave this bike to someone in your will!
- Supreme comfort: the smooth ride of ultra-durable butted chromoly steel frame makes 520 comfortable every day
- Balanced geometry is ultra-stable even when fully loaded
- Generous load capacity: low touring mounts front and rear stabilise heavy multi-day touring loads - front and rear racks are included
- Touring-specific Shimano drivetrain combines mountain bike gearing with road bike smoothness
- Strong wheels built with Shimano M475 36 hole hubs and Bontrager TLR rims
- Tektro Spyre C 2.0 mechanical disc brakes give you reliable all-weather control, plus triple puncture protected Bontrager Hard-Case Ultimate tyres give you the confidence to take on bigger adventures in all conditions
- Platinum Series steel frame:
Bombproof butted frame with a steel-smooth ride.
New for 2019 is a larger diameter downtube for additional frame stiffness to carry all that extra gear.
There's also greater tyre clearance for greater tyre choice and versatility. The 520 comes equipped with 700x38c tyres and can accept up to 29x2.0" for the roughest adventures.
There are mounts to accommodate up to three water bottle cages.
- Touring geometry:
Trek have spent more than three decades perfecting the 520 geometry to suit the heavy loads and high miles of multi-day touring. For 2019 the headtube has been made taller for a more comfortable upright fit.
- Touring fork:
The new, stronger alloy fork is lighter and stiffer for better loaded control, and has greater tyre clearance and ThruSkew. ThruSkew is a new captured skewer system that ensures the front wheel will never drop out unintentionally and makes it easier to remove your wheel without removing all of your front cargo. It's kind of a cross between a thru-axle and a standard skewer.
- 36-spoke wheels:
Super-strong 36-hole rims give 520 a stout foundation for miles and miles of fully loaded riding.
- Tubeless Ready rims:
Bontrager TLR (Tubeless Ready) Road is the first fully integrated tubeless system for the road. No tubes mean there's no pinch flats, allowing you to run lower tyre pressure. With lower tyre pressure you can increase traction, control. and comfort, and reduce fatigue. Best of all, the tyre sealant seals up punctures as soon as they happen!
N.B. tubeless ready tyres, sealant and valves required (not included).
- Pannier carriers:
The Bontrager BackRack Deluxe rear rack and new Bontrager Carry Forward front rack are pre-fitted so you can tackle longer trips and carry more gear straight away.
- Blendr stem:
Bontrager stem technology lets you clip compatible lights and computers directly to the stem for clean looks and maximum user friendliness.
- Compatible with direct mount rear chainstay kickstands (18mm hole spacing)
