The Session is a legendary downhill bike that's carried the world's top riders to many victories in the last decade, from Red Bull Rampage to the World Cup circuit and countless jaw-dropping video segments along the way. Now it's back with some huge updates that make it faster and more versatile than ever.
The new high-pivot suspension design results in a rearward axle path. That means that the back wheel can move with the rearward force produced by bumps rather than against it. On the trail, it feels like way smoother suspension that maintains more forward momentum and provides more grip.
However, a rearward axle path increases the distance between the rear cogs and the front chainring as the suspension compresses. This is also known as 'chain growth'. Since the top section of chain can't actually grow, all that added tension causes the crank to rotate backwards, also known as 'pedal kickback'. It keeps the suspension from working freely, and it results in a harsh ride. To counteract chain growth and the resulting pedal kickback, the new Session has an idler pulley that routes the top section of chain so it's closer to the high pivot. This virtually eliminates chain growth and its negative effects.
The Session still features Active Braking Pivot and Mino Link adjustable geometry, but it now includes a Mino Link to adjust suspension progression. Riders can choose between a firmer 25% progression for racing, or a plusher 20% progression for park riding.
Session comes with the fastest-rolling 29-inch wheels on all sizes, but the frame is also compatible with 27.5 inch wheels, or even a mixed set-up with 29" up front and 27.5" at the rear.
Session's new sizing is based around reach rather than seat tube length so riders can choose the size that best fits their riding style. Size up for more stability at speed, size down for more manoeuvrability. Size-specific chainstay lengths ensure perfectly-balanced handling for each frame size.
Session is built with a robust Alpha Platinum Aluminium frame and features plenty of replaceable armour and the option to run cables internally or externally.
