Gain is an exceptionally light, responsive and sophisticated electric road bike - a machine that heeds the call of the open road.
The Enough Energy concept revolutionised the way riders use eRoad bikes. Now Orbea take it to the next level. Gain has been completely redesigned to improve rider experience, integration and ride quality. Gain is designed to enhance your experience, where less "e" means more "bike".
- Advanced Orbea hydroformed aluminium frame and full carbon forks
- Lightweight, smooth and natural feeling e-bike system
- Shimano Tiagra 2x10 speed groupset
- Shimano Tiagra hydraulic disc brakes provide reassuring control and stopping power
- Ready GR alloy wheels
- Integrated front and rear lights
The new frame has a new endurance geometry that has been refined from years of analysing how ergonomics can help you ride further. Angles and dimensions are considered carefully across a range of sizes to maximise rider comfort - and more comfort means longer rides.
A lower bottom bracket and shorter chainstays give Gain a relaxed yet intuitive, nimble cornering.
Gain's new motor, the Ebikemotion X35 Plus, is the heart of the bike and the key component behind the Enough Energy concept. Its sophisticated transmission system provides smooth, balanced and reliable pedalling assistance that improves your rides without disconnecting you from the satisfaction of a good physical effort. And since the motor is located at the wheel and not the bottom bracket, you'll enjoy pedalling without resistance when the power assist is off.
Sensors monitor your pedalling input and the assistance is cleverly adjusted accordingly. The new Torque Simulation Algorithm results in an extremely natural response in pedal assistance - a smooth power delivery closer to the reaction you expect from a traditional road bike. It allows the bike to match power input per pedal stroke in order to generate more power when it's needed and conserve it when it's not.
The battery is one of the most noticeable components of an eBike platform, so every step has been taken to find the lightest, smallest and most discreet unit. Thanks to the Enough Energy concept, Gain provides the right level of pedalling assistance, never more than necessary. This eliminates the need for bulky, heavy, high-capacity batteries that make an electric bike less "bike". The battery is hidden inside the downtube of the frame and is designed for a range of up to 100 km (about 62 miles) and 1500 metres of altitude. With the Enough Energy concept in action, with most rides not requiring assistance all the time, this will result in greater real world ranges. To recharge the battery simply plug in the provided cable into the port on the frame.
The ICR+ integration technique first used on Orca road models is now adopted by all Gain models to completely hide the cables. Internal Cable Routing is carefully guided along the best path under the stem and through the head tube, with no rub or rattle. Proprietary headset spacers smooth airflow and offer easy adjustment. The entire Orbea road line offers this clean solution with OC Integrated stems and cable covers.
The speed sensor and motor cables are also concealed inside the frame for an elegant look without limiting their accessibility for easy maintenance. The speed sensor is routed inside the right chainstay and the motor cable inside the left. Gain has only one external wire connection, allowing the rear wheel to be removed from the bike. This cable is tucked neatly under the chainstay and hidden with a smoothly-integrated cover.
Integrated lighting is just one more feature to enhance your ride. Gain is the first Orbea road bike with integrated daytime running lights, with the front in the display mount and the rear on the seat post. Gain is safer and more functional with head and tail lights that announce your presence both day and night.
Gain is designed for long rides, but some days might demand more: more time on the bike, more power uphill. The Range Extender is available as an optional extra, an add-on that contributes another 208 W/h to the original battery's 248 W/h capacity, resulting in a total capacity of 456 W/h, giving a 70% boost in range.
With tyre clearance of up to 40mm, Gain also has more ability. Fit wider and/or more treaded tyres to enable confident riding on rough roads and gravel.
Gain's control centre is an attractive and discreet button on the top tube and a cycle computer mounted in front of the stem.
The iWoc ONE top tube interface allows you to power on and off, change between the three assistance levels, check the assistance level currently in use, and check the battery charge remaining. Coloured LEDs indicate the assistance level and remaining charge.
The OC display receives data by ANT+ transmission, providing the functions of a wireless bike computer, including current speed, trip distance, total distance (odometer) and ride time. It is designed to work in conjunction with the iWoc ONE, so you can also access information related to the electric system - battery level, range and assist level - and also change the assist level. Add ANT+ compatible heart rate and cadence sensors or a power meter for further functionality.
If you crave even more data and functionality, the optional app offers altitude, gradient, ride tracking, mapping and navigation, and activity and GPS route uploading.
Gain doesn't require a multitude of wires, ports or accessories. The CAN (Controller Area Network) bus port provides a single interface for charging, system diagnosis or attaching the Range Extender.
